Musician’s Toolshed (“we”, “our”, or “MT”) respects your privacy and is committed to protecting any personal information you share with us. This policy outlines how we collect, use, and protect your information across our website: musicianstoolshed.com.
1. Information We Collect
We collect personal information you voluntarily provide when registering, communicating, or participating in lessons. This may include:
- Contact information: name, email address, phone number
- Demographic details: student age or birthdate
- Lesson-related information: instruments of study, goals, messages, assignments, and scheduling preferences
- Media submissions: audio or video recordings shared for practice, assignments, or showcases
We do not sell or rent personal data to third parties.
For more about lesson expectations and media permissions, please refer to our Lesson Policy and Agreement Form
2. Payments & Billing
We use Stripe to securely process lesson subscription payments. Your billing details are encrypted and managed directly through Stripe’s platform.
- We do not store or process payment card details on our own servers.
- Stripe’s Privacy Policy governs their handling of your information.
3. Analytics & Cookies
We use Google Analytics to better understand how visitors use our site. This includes anonymized data such as IP address, browser type, and time spent on pages.
- You can opt out of Google Analytics tracking using tools like Google’s opt-out browser add-on.
- Our site uses basic cookies to support site functionality (e.g. saving login details or comment info). You may disable cookies in your browser settings, but some site features may not function properly.
- A cookie consent banner may appear when you visit the site for the first time, giving you the option to manage preferences.
- For more details, see our Cookie Policy.
4. Communication & Media Use
We collect and store lesson-related communications and media submitted through our site for educational purposes. This includes:
- Messages exchanged via the built-in Lesson Dashboard messenger (WordPress-based)
- Weekly assignments and resources shared in student lesson notebooks (hosted on Notion via view-only links)
- Practice recordings or performance submissions shared by students
Students and families do not need a Notion account to access notebooks. In rare cases, edit access may be temporarily granted for specific purposes.
Lessons are conducted via Google Meet and are not currently recorded. If recordings are introduced in the future for instructional purposes, families will be notified and access will be limited to the student (and parent/guardian when applicable).
Student Media & Showcases
Performance or practice recordings may be featured in online showcases (e.g. YouTube or the MT website). Showcase participation requires a signed media release.
To protect privacy, only first names and last initials are published with student videos. These recordings are used only for educational, celebratory, and studio-promotional purposes.
Public Comments
Commenting is enabled on some blog posts and lesson pages. Visitors are welcome to post replies. Comments are moderated and may be publicly visible once approved.

We implement reasonable security measures to protect user data, including:
- Encrypted connections (SSL)

- Limitations on who can access personal or billing records
No method of data transmission is 100% secure, but we follow industry best practices to safeguard information.
